'Love letter' to LOVE
it might not yet feel 'spring-like' weather wise, but love is definitely in the air for the people happily kissing in the sunshine....
This post was inspired by card No. 13 “LOVE” from
“You Are The Medicine” special card deck. I chose that card - or did it choose me? - and talked about it on Emma’s wonderfully warm & reflective podcast last year. You can listen to our conversation here, but please be warned that it can be emotionally upsetting in some places.Someone wise, whose name I sadly can’t recollect, said something that has stuck like a thorn in my mind many years ago: “to love is to risk you might not be loved in return”. I have always lived through my heart, with my head & its pragmatism sometimes catching up with my heart later, but I can say with absolute certainty that while I have some regrets, I have never regretted loving.
I was raised by a pretty impressive and most individually unusual group of individuals, my parents and my grandparents ( you can see all of us in this image of cosy domesticity, bar my paternal grandfather, who took this picture and thus was left behind the scenes ) with some input from my aunt and uncle thrown in for good measure.
Each member of my big family showed me love throughout my life, which resulted in me growing up a confident child and turning into a confident woman, who knows who she is (for most part, but as I like to say “I am the work in progress”) and what her abilities, talents and shortcomings are. That love instilled, distilled and poured all over me through my childhood and formative years, has served me well and now I understand and appreciate more than ever just HOW lucky I was in that respect.
