Assembling things for my monthly ‘newness’ post is always a joy. I get to explore my own curiosity about products, books or exhibitions and then share all of them with you, hoping that my recommendations would resonate with you. So what have I chosen to spotlight for you this month? Let’s dive in!
Books: Camilla Cavendish is a columnist, broadcaster and campaigner, who has gained a lot of respect for her work and thorough research. I have read her first book “Extra Time” when it was first published in 2019 and recently felt compelled to re-read it. We are increasingly bombarded with the information that is supposedly going to improve our health and lifestyle, but to be honest I think more often than not it’s more about marketing and less about the benefit for consumers. In this book Camilla examines a significant demographic shift - did you know that by 2020 and for the first time in history, the number of people aged 65 and over has outnumbered children aged five and under? But in life sadly our foundations and systems are lagging behind and are ill-equipped to service the actual needs of society. In her book Camilla took up a challenge to explore how different countries and governments are responding to the challenges. She spotlights things that we all can either do, when it comes to our own lifestyle and health choices, or need to pay attention to and campaign for actual, implementable changes that can benefit society as a whole. With the focus of ageing, exercising, retirement, brain power, genetics, human interaction, robotics & life purpose, you will be both intrigued and educated. The book shares a lot of scientific research, yet it’s very human, warm and easy to read.
Skincare Travel Kit: I have been a long-term fan of French natural beauty brand Absolution. Founded by the formidable and inspiring Isabelle Carron, the brand caters to needs of women of all ages and does so thoughtfully and knowledgable. I purchased Absolution’s “Skin Saver Hydrating Set” recently, bearing in mind that the beautiful beauty bag and sample-sized products would serve as a perfect weekend getaway kit for my face care needs. The stylish set includes everything to cleanse, scrub, nurture and nourish your skin & will last you for a getaway that is not just for the weekend, but say is week-long. There are 15ml products that include Purifying Gel Cleanser that is thoroughly enjoyable, particularly for morning cleanse to wake you and your skin up"; a Gentle Exfoliator, to help remove dead skin more effectively or help make sure that your newly developing suntan will be longer-lasting; the Deep Hydrating Mask (which can be used during your flight or to help re-hydrate the skin straight after your arrival to your destination); Hydrate Serum & Day Cream (a combination of those two products works well for evening skincare routine).
