When Odacite launched its innovative cryo-tech facial tool last year I was somewhat sceptical, wondering if it will be more useful, if compared to a frozen teaspoon with a long handle, an icicle housed in a silicone holder or a cryo ball that you can buy from well-known facialists or an Amazon dupe. While I don’t have too many facial tools and gadgets at home - being selective serves me well - I don’t want to add to my collection something that will be disappointing or will be used for a short while and then will start gathering dust, making me feel guilty about wastefulness. If I buy a tool or a brand sends me one to trial, I want to make sure it’s “a keeper” that does an effective job on the face or body, bringing actual benefits to the user. If not, what’s the point?
What is Odacite’s Cryo-tech facial tool for?
It’s a cooling massage tool that can help address problematic skin conditions like acne, help decrease eye puffiness and decrease facial and neck tension. It will also refresh your complexion and cool skin down if you suffer from hot weather and hormonal flushes. Powered by Terahertz, this facial tool has a versatile, double-ended design – one for Gua Sha facial massage and one for facial acupressure.
TARGETED CONCERNS
Puffiness, inflamed acne/breakouts, dull/tired skin, facial tension, sagging skin, signs of aging.
What is TERAHERTZ?
Created by Japanese scientists, Terahertz is a crystal with the unique ability to conduct & maintain cold temperatures, becoming instantly ‘ice’ cold, when dipped in iced water & without the need to leave it in the freezer for hours.
The stone is incorporated into a plastic-free design with a sleek, elongated shape that adapts perfectly to your facial and neck contours, allowing you to have an effective and easy cryo-session in the privacy of your home or hotel room during your holiday or work trips. Simply dip the tool in a glass of iced water and count to ten (personally, I leave it for a little bit longer) and start using it on your face, to which you have already applied you favourite face oil. Use Acupressure and Gua Sha technique (the tool comes with the instructions diagram that you will easily master or use from time to time as a helpful reference guide) and get on with relieving facial tension, depuff the eye or cheek area, as well as perk up tired skin that might also lack tightness.
Why face oil and not a serum or moisturiser might you ask?
Well, it simply comes down to the ‘gliding’ of the tool over face and neck. For the perfect facial massage, use a nourishing facial oil with a good skin slip, which will prevent you from tagging or dragging the skin and causing unwanted friction. You can also try applying a face balm, if you use one or have a favourite, and see if it pairs well with the cryo tool. At the end of the day your skin and it’s comfort are your best guides!
While I have many favourite facial oils which I use on a regular basis all year round, a member of Odacite PR team ( you know who you are, thank YOU !) has recommended I ‘pair’ the cryo tool with Odacite’s “All-Embracing Hydrating Serum” - and I am grateful for that advice, as they form a perfect synergistic duo of product and tool. The serum is in effect a lightweight Watermelon Seed Oil, which moisturises the skin and provides a perfect slip, so the tool easily glides anywhere on my face I want it to go. The serum makes the skin feel supple and coupled with the cooling sensation that the tool provides on each occasion, this mini ritual becomes addictive. And then it becomes a good habit, as I now use this tool several times a week, in the evening, helping me to unwind after a busy day. Sometimes I also use the cryo tool while I am sitting at my desk in the middle of the day, contemplating ideas for new posts, working on pitches, feeling stuck with something I am writing about or considering ideas or solutions client brand. One tool, multiple uses !
Remember when I mention my initial dose of scepticism about this cryo tool at the beginning ? Well, when you have a sturdy tool that you feel in your hand - it’s not too light, nor heavy, but it is ‘weighty’ in a good practical sense and it has multiple functionality, you can’t help but appreciate the time and effort that went into creating it. It helps to sooth skin, if it feels hot or bothered, and smooths wrinkles ( if you, like me, already have them ), lift eyebrow area and eases puffiness around the eye or jawline, shifts the tension from your jaw and softens your lips, supports your body’s natural lymphatic drainage abilities by opening up constricted pathways, improves appearance of neck and face by sculpting them, lifts the cheeks and cools the skin on a hot day - well, that’s quite a long list of benefits, I hope you will agree?
The duality of the design is impressive and practical too, so I would caution you to look for dupes for this particular one - some original beauty tools are definitely worth buying before they get copied. It’s also worth keep an eye on a promotional discount by the brand or retailer, keeping the tool on your ‘wish list’ for some extra satisfaction, rather than buying a second-rate copy that won’t be effective and likely will end up in the trash - or unused - days after the purchase.
I also want to add how much I enjoyed using this particular Odacite face serum on still cold & often miserable spring evenings in London, when the chill still manages to seep into the body and makes me want to reach out for the hot water bottle and a chunky duvet. A scent of hibiscus flowers and watermelon warms the sense up and the skin drinks it in somewhat greedily, accepting the abundance of Vitamin A, B & E into its layers. Oatmeal, another useful ingredient, soothes the skin and adds a velveteen feel to it, while notes of Orange blossom helping to relax the mind and the infusion of Amethyst crystal calming body and mind, clearing any negativity you might have brought home from the outside.
As consumers of beauty, we are spoilt for choice by constant new launches, making it difficult to navigate and rationally decide what you do or don’t need. When a brand reaches out to me or a press release lands in my inbox, I start by asking myself, if the new product serves a purpose, offers innovation and is something that I will want to use on a regular basis, rather than jump from it to the next ‘good’ thing. In this instance my healthy dose of scepticism was washed away, giving way to a generous sense of affection, which borders on a healthy obsession with regular use. I will also gladly admit to being happy about being proven wrong by a brand that challenged my scepticism and did it will tact and grace.
Do you have any face tools that you use on a regular basis or keep recommending to friends?
